Cesenatico: what to see and do, discover the area
The Canal Port by Leonardo Da Vinci
One of the most evocative spots in Cesenatico is undoubtedly the Canal Port.
Built in the 16th century based on a project by Leonardo Da Vinci, its banks are lined with colourful houses of the original fishing village.
Today, many of the houses have been converted into traditional restaurants or colourful craft shops.
However, undoubtedly the splendid historic sailing ships moored in the canal will enchant your gaze the most.
These vessels, for which the hands of time have stopped, are part of the Maritime Museum.

PIAZZA DELLE CONSERVE
When the boats returned from the sea laden with fish, the sailors hurried to bring the catch to the nearby Piazza delle Conserve.
This square owes its name to the deep cisterns used as iceboxes to preserve food.
In winter they were filled with snow, which, when well pressed, was slow to melt, thus keeping the temperature inside the cistern very low.
Today, Piazza delle Conserve is every morning home to a colourful local farmers' market.
In the evenings, it turns into a stage for musical events.

THE HEART OF THE WATERFRONT
Cesenatico also boasts a beating heart by the sea: Piazza Costa.
Piazza Costa is a splendid terrace overlooking the sea, framed by the historic Grand Hotel and the Skyscraper.
If you wish, you can also admire it from above by climbing onto a large panoramic Ferris wheel.
However, you may already be familiar with it because it is one of the locations where the TV series Summertime was filmed.
A popular place to meet friends, stroll along the promenade and enjoy numerous events, this square is also an excellent starting point to go shopping.
The streets are lined with shops, cafés, bars and ice-cream parlours.

FISHERMEN'S HUTS
When strolling along the Canal Port as far as its entrance to the sea, one arrives at the fishermen's huts.
These characteristic buildings stand on wooden stilts.
Although many of them have now become luxury lofts, they have not lost their charm, on the contrary!
Perhaps this is why the TV series Summertime chose them as the setting for several scenes.

ANCIENT VILLAGES IN THE HINTERLAND
Cesenatico is part of an area filled with ancient villages of timeless charm.
The oldest republic in the world, San Marino, is just a few dozen kilometres away.
From its towers you can enjoy a panorama of extraordinary beauty as there is nothing here "that the eye cannot see".
Have you ever heard of the fortress of San Leo, which was the prison of the famous Count Cagliostro and capital of Italy for a day?
Not to mention the enchanting Sant'Arcangelo, whose ancient streets and squares are the scene of almost non-stop festivals and fairs.
However, the Romagna countryside is also rich in natural treasures to be discovered, such as the Oferno Caves or the Alfero Waterfalls.
